Story
Hi everyone,
I'll be running the Rotorua Marathon on the 6th of May 2023 in support of The Little Miracles Trust. The Trust supports families with babies born prematurely or with illnesses that require treatment in one of the six neonatal intensive care units around Aotearoa. They also assist NICU & SCBU hospital staff by contributing to the cost of equipment and training.
On the 7th of May last year our twins Bastion & Alexandra were born at 25 weeks, over 3 months premature. Bastion was with us for a day in the NICU unit at Auckland Hospital before he passed away having cuddles with his mum. Lexi moved from Auckland Hospital to Middlemore after a few weeks and spent a total of 4 months in neonatal care, almost 90 days on respiratory support. The Little Miracles Trust team was there all the way through with thoughtful support like meals, prem sized clothes, breast pump supplies and books for our 3-year-old son Grayson to help him understand why his little sister was in hospital for so long. They were also there to listen and encourage; there were times when the Trust team made unbearable days bearable.
Lexi is home now and doing well, she has a cheeky smile and the best chuckle. My wife Haylea & I will always be incredibly grateful for The Little Miracles Trust and the work they do. I hope to raise funds for the Trust so they can continue to support families & the amazing hospital staff in NZ’s neonatal care units.
My goal is to raise $100 for every kilometre run on the day for a total of $4,200. Lexi turns One the day after the race, it would be brilliant to be able to give something back to The Little Miracles Trust on our little miracle’s first birthday.
Thank you so much for your donations & support!
Matt

Our Purpose:We’re here for a very simple reason. To make a difficult start to life that little bit easier.By supporting parents and whānau through a time that no one is prepared for. A newborn surround by monitors and tubes, not hugs and cuddles.A hospital stay lasting weeks or months, not hours or days. Eyes filled with tears of sadness and worry, not tears of happiness and joy. These are the times you need someone who knows what you’re going through to tell you it’s going to be alright.Someone who can give you the kind of support and resources that will make all the difference.Someone who can say “We’re here for you”.
